EPITA Continuing Education


 

 

The El Paso Interpreters and Translators Association (EPITA) is approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) as Licensed Court Interpreter Continuing Education Provider No. 1338.

 

NOTE: Jorge L. Dieppa, Continuing Education Coordinator for the El Paso Interpreters and Translators Association (EPITA), maintains this page to provide EPITA members and the general public with information on the development and presentation of courses to meet the requirements of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). Breaking News - November 15, 2009

Our courses were presented this past weekend, November 14 and 15, 2009 and were a great success.  22 people got credit for 8 hours and completed their continuing education requirements to renew their Texas License.  1 person attended on Saturday and got their Ethics credit taken care of and 1 other person came on Sunday only for 4 hours of credit.  A few others attended who did not need credit but took advantage of the professional development experience, 4 on both days and 4 for 1 day only.

All course credits have been entered into the TDLR Continuing Education Completion Reporting Site.  Go to TDLR's Continuing Education Courses Look Up page and enter your License No. to check your current credits.

Important Information Regarding EPITA's TDLR Continuing Education Courses

EPITA's courses are open to the public, but primarily scheduled to meet the needs of the membership.  The currently-approved courses were offered in November 2009.  There are currently no plans to offer them again.  New courses will be developed for 2010.

Nonmembers – $70 per course, Sat and Sun, for a total of $140

November 2, 2009 - Finished updating Presenters Bios. 

 

October 30, 2009 - Updated the Continuing Education pages on the EPITA portal.  Moved last year's course information to a new page.  Uploaded new registration form.  Updated Presenters Bios.

 

October 29, 2009 - Courses approved by TDLR.  Email announcement sent to all members with applcation form.

 

October 21, 2009 - 8 hours compiled. Application for two new 4-hour courses sent express mail to TDLR in Austin, including timed outlines and handouts.

 

September 17, 2009 - Information announced at monthly EPITA meeting concerning anticipated dates, times, location, fees and contents for courses.

 

July 29, 2009 - EPITA renewed by TDLR as a Licensed Court Interpreter Continuing Education Provider, No. 1338.

 

LICENSED COURT INTERPRETERS
Administrative Rules of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation
16 Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 80 (effective September 1, 2006)

80.25. Continuing Education. (Effective December 8, 2005, 30 TexReg 8074; amended effective September 1, 2006, 31 TexReg 6719)

(b) To renew a license under Texas Government Code, Chapter 57, Subchapter C, a licensee must complete eight hours of continuing education in courses approved by the department, including two hours of instruction in ethics.

(c) The continuing education hours must have been completed within the term of the current license, in the case of a timely renewal. For a late renewal, the continuing education hours must have been completed within the one year period immediately prior to the date of renewal.

(h) This section shall apply to licenses issued under Texas Government Code, Chapter 57, Subchapter C, that expire on or after January 1, 2007.
