The following policies and procedures will be followed by EPITA in presenting Continuing Education courses for Texas Licensed Court Interpreters:
I. Registration Deadlines - In general, the registration and fees must be received one week before the event to allow adequate time for duplication of any materials and for payment checks to clear. Late registrations may be accepted if room allows. Fees for late registration will be accepted in cash or money order only.
II. Fees - Course advertisements will indicate what the required fee will be for each course and whether additional materials shall be required.
III. Course Materials - Appropriate instructional materials will be part of each course. Some materials may be emailed to students before the actual course and others may be handed out at the event. Students may be directed to websites, such as those of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation or the National Center for State Courts, to download reference materials. If purchase of additional materials is required, course advertisements will so indicate in a prominent fashion.
IV. Returned Checks - Any checks returned will invalidate a participant’s registration. If the problem becomes known after the actual course presentation, continuing education credit with the Texas Department of Licensing will not be requested by EPITA. A returned-check fee may be required before a participant is allowed to register for another course.
V. Insufficient Enrollment - A course may be cancelled or rescheduled for insufficient enrollment. Registered participants will be sent notice no later than three (3) days before the scheduled course and afforded the opportunity to apply their registration fee for any new offering.
VI. Tardiness and Absence - No credit for Continuing Education will be awarded to registrants who are tardy or absent. Late arrivals may remain if able to do so without disturbing the rest of the class. Students who are absent without withdrawing in advance may not be eligible for a full refund.
VII. Withdrawal - Registered students who wish to withdraw their registration may do so without penalty no later than three (3) days before the scheduled offering. Tardy withdrawals will be subject to a nominal fee.
VIII. Right of Admission - We reserve the right of admission in every case when presenting a Continuing Education course.
IX. Conduct in Class - EPITA is a professional organization and expects all participants to behave accordingly. Disruptive students will be asked to leave and will not receive credit for participation or a refund of any fees.
X. Instructor Absence - In case of unforeseen circumstances, a suitable and qualified instructor may be substituted for any course. If none is available, a course may be rescheduled or cancelled. Registered participants will be afforded the opportunity to apply their registration fee for any new offering.
XI. Refunds - When requested, appropriate refunds will be sent to registered participants within 30 days. There will be no refund for participants who are absent, tardy, find it necessary to leave early, or are asked to leave for being disruptive. Also see under “Withdrawal.”
XII. Inclement Weather - In rare instances where El Paso weather requires cancellation of a session, registered participants will be notified by email or telephone at the earliest possible opportunity. Participants should not assume there is a cancellation but rather should communicate with an EPITA representative before missing a scheduled course.
XIII. Non-Licensed Participants - Members of the public who are not Texas Licensed Court Interpreters may register for the courses but will not receive Continuing Education credit from TDLR.
